Challenge: Start a new build in a new building on the ground floor of a multistory apartment complex and be the first retail space to open, all done during the height of COVID

Goals of project:

Build a clinic that helps Dr. Joshua Yonas deliver the best medicine through the best equipment and facility

Create a feeling of warmth using natural materials such as those found at an old-school barbershop

Deliver on his promise to treat all patients as well as his English bulldog, Lola, and honor her impact on his life path

The overarching idea for Southpaw Vet in San Diego was to facilitate a space that is clean, comforting and functional, putting people and their pets at ease. “The animals sense that, and the owners feel it too, so we can practice the best level of vet care with the least amount of stress for all. The more comfortable the client is, the more comfortable their pet is. So it’s all part of delivering damn good veterinary care.”
