Grounded veterinary care: Beachside Animal Hospital

Challenge: Within existing family medical clinic footprint, create a new veterinary clinic

Goals of the project:

Launch a practice where doctor, staff and clients feel at home; clients can learn
Create a new vet clinic using essentially the same footprint as the previous family medical clinic
Design a surgery suite around specifically selected equipment

Dr. Diego Sobrino’s practice is just off the main road in Satellite Beach, Florida, in a stand-alone building and a stunning location. About 45 minutes east of Orlando, the location is part of Florida’s Space Coast near Cocoa Beach, Port Canaveral, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and where NASA and SpaceX rockets launch.

The practice has a beachy, zen feel to it – like that of a family doctor. So, it comes as no surprise that the building used to be a family practice, called Beachside Family Practice.

Sobrino explained, “A big part of the way that I like to practice is I like to explain and teach. I think not knowing what somebody’s telling you about why you should be doing it this way – it makes it a little bit harder for the client to be as involved in their pet’s care. I think it hits home a little bit more when you get to provide that education. The clients have grown to like the way that we practice here; they’re happy with the environment, they’re happy with the way that they are treated and that we explain things to them.”

Sobrino also built his schedule to accommodate the education he wants to provide his clientele. He sees 30-minute appointments, which accommodates walk-in or critical cases that may come in. Every detail of Beachside is thought through, from surgery suite to kennel setup. And it’s why clients feel at home here and leave rave reviews.
