The Pleur-Evac® Infant Chest Drainage unit with dry suction control and water seal is a sterile, single use drainage system intended for post-operative patient care. The fluid path is non-pyrogenic. The system consists of a suction control chamber to control patient applied suction, a water seal chamber to provide the patient isolation from the ambient environment, and a fluid collection chamber for collection of fluids from the chest cavity or mediastinum.

  • Collection Chamber: 150 ml capacity; measured in 1/2 ml increments up to 10 ml, and 1 ml increments up to 150 ml
  • Air leak chamber allows for identification of patient air leak, indicated by bubbling
  • Seal: to protect against exposure to atmospheric air, water seal must be established through the addition of 2 cm H2O
  • Tip-over protection: with suction turned on, the one-way valve protects the patient from atmospheric air upon tip-over in any direction
  • Suction control: adjustable dial that clicks into place by increments of 10 cm, up to 40 cm
  • Suction indicator: orange float valve appears ONLY when suction has reached prescribed (dialed) level
  • Specimen sampling: Needleless sampling port in patient tube to prevent needle-stick injuries
  • Latex content: not made with natural rubber latex
  • Positive pressure protection: positive pressure relief valve opens with increases in positive pressure, preventing pressure accumulation
  • Negative pressure protection: high negativity float valve preserves water seal in the presence of high negativity; high negativity relief valve allows for manual relief of negativity
